Lenny meets with the Italian Prime Minister; Cardinal Gutierrez reluctantly leaves the Vatican for his new assignment abroad; Dussolier takes up his new position; Voiello is interrogated about Tonino; Esther`s miracle comes true. For all its structural and thematic ambitions, the first episode of The Third Day – confusingly titled “Friday: The Father” and presented as part of the series` first three-part “Summer” section – is relatively straightforward. Introduced into a startling close-up, Sam de Law discusses on the phone about the possibly stolen money before putting on headphones, placing a child`s striped shirt in a stream and sobbing. Soon after, he discovers a young girl, Epona, who tries to hang herself in the woods with the help of a curly boy who runs away. After rescuing the girl, Sam decides it`s his responsibility to bring her home. At the start of HBO and Sky Atlantic`s new summer show “The Third Day,” Sam, a garden center owner played by Jude Law, saves a young girl from certain death in the creepy forests of south-east England. At the beginning of the first episode of The Third Day, HBO`s gripping new popeless miniseries starring Jude Law, a young girl named Epona (Jessie Ross) shows off a pair of oversized dolls in a field. A group of residents maneuver the grand figures, unsettling in design and terrifying in their movements, happily through the grass during a rehearsal for an upcoming cultural festival on an island where the girl has spent her entire life with a relatively small group of like-minded residents. Sam de Law, a former social worker involved in an ethically questionable venture at home, is the perfect underdog, a well-meaning guy who won`t be put off by some really crazy warning signs. While the live movie event and seasonal structure are sure to draw some curious viewers, it`s easy to imagine that The Third Day`s structural ambitions will put off anyone looking for the upcoming Big Little Lies or The Outsider, a more traditional HBO crime miniseries based on popular novels. This spectacle is certainly more delicate and stranger. Conceptually, bleeding into the real world of The Third Day seems to be the natural result of HBO`s theoretical successes like Westworld and True Detective.
Here`s a TV show that can`t be contained within the confines of a traditional miniseries. The New Pope is a television series created by Paolo Sorrentino for Sky Atlantic, HBO and Canal+. It is a sequel to the 2016 series The Young Pope, which was originally announced as the second season. [1] The nine-part series stars Jude Law, who reprises his role as Pope Pius XIII, and John Malkovich as Pope John Paul III, the new pope of the same name. [2] It was co-produced by European production companies The Apartment, Wildside, Haut et Court TV and Mediapro. [3] With Jude Law and Naomi Harris leading the limited series, we`re guaranteed to experience great acting, and since there`s not much else on TV right now, we might as well indulge ourselves, but “The Third Day” probably won`t change the way we see things. The series had its world premiere on September 1, 2019 at 76. Venice International Film Festival, where episodes 2 and 7 were screened out of competition. [19] He made his television debut on 10 January 2020 on Sky Atlantic in Italy,[20] on Sky Atlantic in the UK and Ireland on 12 January[21] and on HBO and Canal+ on 13 January. [22] [23] The series tells the individual journeys of a man and a woman who arrive on a mysterious island at different times.
The series was commissioned in June 2019, with the announcement that Jude Law had been cast in the lead role. Marc Munden was hired to direct the first three episodes, while Dennis Kelly wrote the script. In July, Katherine Waterston, Paddy Considine and Emily Watson were added to the cast.[18] Naomie Harris and John Dagleish were added in August, with Philippa Lowthorpe being hired to direct the final three episodes of the series.[19] Kit de Waal and Dean O`Loughlin joined Kelly to write two episodes. [21] [22] Production of the New Pope began in Italy at the end of 2018. [13] Filming took place in November 2018 at St. Peter`s Basilica in Vatican City. Some scenes were shot in Milan in January and February 2019. [ref. needed] The production team also shot in Venice in January and April 2019. [14] [15] Most of the filming took place at Cinecittà in Rome. The team returned to Rome to play in St. Peter`s Square in March 2019.
[16] Other scenes were shot in Abruzzo and on the Piave River. The opening sequence of the series with dancing nuns was filmed at the convent of San Giorgio in Venice.[17] [18] The official teaser for the series was released on August 28, 2019. [5] The second trailer premiered on November 3, 2019. [24] The official full trailer was released on December 10, 2019. [25] Two-time Oscar nominee Jude Law stars in this 10-episode limited edition series about a radically new pope—the first American pope and the youngest ever elected by the College of Cardinals—who is leading the Church in an astonishing new direction. Diane Keaton plays the lead role. The second part of the production, “Autumn,” aired as a twelve-hour live event on the island. [4] Described by the show`s producers as a “great immersive theatrical event,” the show`s live segment was streamed, intended to allow followers of The Third Day “to inhabit the story as it happens.” [5] It features Jude Law and other members of the series.
[6] Part 2 also features singer Florence Welch. From the beginning, his character Sam is pushed to extreme limits, but Law never leaves the happy medium between passion and anger and offers the audience a safe performance.
